Although the firm had the primary patent on a petrol-based engine normally fitted to their stage coaches, it was only in 1901 when their first automobile creation was issued and it was only in 1928 the business decided on the name of Mercedes-Benz.

From there on Mercedes has been associated with the development of design, technology and safety characteristics that allow their models to become some of the most eagerly sought after worldwide.

These introductions have raised the bar for contemporary motor vehicle projects and include the internal combustion engine, the honeycomb radiator, the float carburettor, the "drop chassis", 4-wheel braking and crumple zones for enhanced security during a collision. All of these features have become the norm for all cars from then on.

Most recently, Mercedes have engineered the ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) which enhances the car travel and offers the driver greater supremacy of their car.

The first of many Mercedes' was manufactured in 1928, and was known as the Mercedes-Benz SSK, which was a roadster that could reach top speeds of 120 miles per hour and was for a period the fastest car in the world. The next major motor issued was the Mercedes-Benz 260 D which came out in 1936 and was the second automobile ever to have been created with a diesel engine.

The 1950s gave the firm a great deal of triumph thanks to the launch of the Mercedes-Benz Type 300, this was the modern S-Class car of its day in the fifties. It united power and elegance but was exclusive.

Mercedes-Benz rolled their C-Class off the production line in the 1990s something which evolved into the CLK-Class, CLC-Class, C-Class Sportcoupe, along with the E-class Coupe.

All of these ranges contributed to an illustrious history for the firm promoting a loyalty to the brand from consumers. During the decades the firm have been able to show they can make excellent automobiles for which they have been commended many times.

Despite some initial success in the fifties, Mercedes-Benz didn't become prominent within Formula One until the 1990s. Then in 2009 Ross Brawn's newly conceived Formula One team, Brawn GP, utilised the engines of Mercedes to help capture the constructor's championship. After the win the team name was altered from Brawn GP to Mercedes GP for the 2010 season.

Preserving with the business' progressive viewpoint, Mercedes have started to act in the environmentally-friendly market with many low carbon automobiles being released.
